Kokomo Police were dispatched to an armed robbery Saturday afternoon.
Officers responded to Soupley’s, 928 E. Markland Avnue. Kokomo/ Howard County Dispatch advised that a man entered the store and demanded money and alcohol. He also stated that he had a handgun, however, no weapon was displayed. The suspect fled the store with a bottle of alcohol in a paper bag.
The suspect was last seen running eastbound.
Officers immediately began searching the area. An officer located the suspect about a block north of the store. After a brief foot chase and brief physical altercation, the suspect was taken into custody. He was still in possession of the bottle of alcohol. No weapon was found.
The suspect was identified as Tremel Black, 38, of Kokomo. Black was positively identified by witnesses at the scene and video surveillance.
Black was transported to the Howard County Criminal Justice Center and charged with robbery, Level 3 Felony; resisting law enforcement, Level 6 Felony; escape - work release, Level 6 Felony.
