The Kewanna Arts Alliance is once again bringing activity to the "small town with a big heart" before the annual Kewanna fireworks display July 3, with a Neighbors Day event.
REMC also donated $500 to help make the event possible.
The Neighbors Day event will kicks off at 4 p.m. across the street from the HeARTery at 414 E Main St. The event plans to include vendors, food trucks, live music, kids art activities, a historical scavenger hunt and golf cart parade. The scavenger hunt will begin at 6 p.m., taking participants throughout the town with a passport and riddles to find the "heart of Kewanna." The group plans on hiding stickers for the passports and historical facts about the locations at 15 different spots throughout the town, with riddles and a map to lead the way. Prizes will be given to winning participants who complete the scavenger hunt first.
A golf cart parade will wind down the event at 7:30 pm. Those wanting to participate in the golf cart parade can do so by filling out a registration form at http://www.thehearterykewanna.com. Participants are encouraged to decorate their rides and show off their community spirit. Prizes will be given to top placing golf carts from the parade. The golf cart parade will end at the Union Township Park just before the Kewanna fireworks display begins.
The event is just one of the many things the Kewanna Arts Alliance has been doing to improve the town and bring the community together.
On June 7, the group held a community meeting to introduce The Heart of Kewanna Project as a way to get local feedback and include resident's ideas in the plans. The creative convergence project was first launched in 2025 after being sponsored by the Indiana Arts Commission, who supports the planning of a public area at the town’s crossroads for a future welcoming area.
During the community meeting designer, Lori Roberts, a town resident, shared the proposed design. The proposed design titled "Kewanna Welcome Center" features a pavilion with seating, a walkway, restored train engine as part of Kewanna's history, a miniature water tower, sculpture, parking area, and an invitation to explore points of interest and history throughout the town.
Further considerations on the project will be made and then presented to the Kewanna Town Council in July.
