Thursday afternoon, Marshall County Central Dispatch advised Plymouth Police that they received several calls about a white Ford Explorer all over the roadway driving very slowly and stopping at green lights.
Plymouth Police Chief John Weir and Detective Workman located the vehicle sitting at a green light at LaPorte and Michigan Streets. The vehicle turned eastbound onto LaPorte Street, and Detective Workman initiated a traffic stop.
Officers approached the vehicle and found that the driver had never had a license. She also had a baby unrestrained in the backseat, asleep.
45-year-old Juanita Castro-Gutierrez of Plymouth was taken into custody, and a relative came and took possession of the baby. She was transported to the Marshall County Jail and held for operating a vehicle without a license.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
