Some good economic news in regard to the use of a former factory location at the Mid-American Air Center located northeast of Lawrenceville.
The Bi-State Authority, which governs the airport, is working to finalize a two-year lease agreement with JMR Farms for use of the former Kaufmann Engineering building located at the facility. The building had been vacant since being shut down by the company at the end of 2021. The plant had specialized in the manufacture of custom wiring solutions, premium wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and circuit boards.
JMR Farms is a family-owned farm produce operation based in Knox County (Indiana) with a location in eastern Lawrence County (Illinois). They will process their produce at the former factory site starting with sweet corn for markets and stores. It is planned to eventually to also process lettuce, broccoli and other produce there.
