The timing could not have been any worse for the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department.
With the hottest temperatures of the year hitting last week, many were looking to cool off at the Greencastle Aquatic Center. However, officials had to be the bearer of bad news, as the aquatic center was closed after failing a pool water test.
As of Sunday, the pool remained closed, while Parks and Recreation Department Director Greg Ruark said the closure was the result of a leak the parks department dealt with for a number of days.
"It's taken a while to get the pool regulated again," Ruark told The Putnam County Post.
The Splash Pad is currently open, as that operates on a different tank, system and water than the pool.
The closure of the pool put a damper on what had been a strong swimming season for the parks department.
"Attendance at the pool has been steady. However, with the recent high temperatures, the numbers are significantly higher," Ruark said.
