A 34-year-old Indianapolis man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after he was caught inside a Plymouth bank allegedly attempting to cash a fraudulent check.
According to the Plymouth Police Department, an off-duty Plymouth officer received a call from the manager at Lake City Bank on Jefferson Street at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21st, advising that a male was inside the branch attempting to cash a fraudulent check.
When Officer Fisher arrived at the bank, he learned that two males — one in Akron and one in Fulton County — had also attempted to cash fraudulent checks at other Lake City Bank branches. The bank's headquarters had distributed photographs of the suspects to all branch locations with instructions to contact the police if any of the individuals appeared.
One of the males was inside the Plymouth branch when officers arrived. He was identified as Joshua Sprinkle, 34, of Indianapolis, and was taken into custody on a felony fraud charge. Sprinkle was transported to the Marshall County Jail, where a probable cause affidavit was completed. He is currently being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
