A 19-year-old Illinois man was arrested early Friday morning after a Plymouth police officer pulled him over for speeding on U.S. 30.
At approximately 3:35 a.m. on April 24, Patrolman Allen with the Plymouth Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a westbound vehicle just west of the Michigan Street overpass.
Upon speaking with the driver, identified as Douglas Caal, 19, of Aurora, Illinois, the officer discovered that Caal was operating the vehicle without ever having obtained a driver's license.
Caal was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Marshall County Jail. He was booked and lodged on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
