Four teams with 14 or more wins going into this final week of the regular season are in the six team field at the 2A Lewis Cass sectional.
On Sunday, the IHSAA released the sectional pairings for the girls 50th annual state basketball tournament.
Rochester (14-6) is one of those winning teams. The Zebras finish the regular season this week with home games against Taylor and Northfield.
The Zebras then will have some days to get rested. The Zebras received the quarterfinal bye and will play the winner of a Tuesday matchup between #15 Oak Hill (19-2) and Wabash (17-4).
Rochester lost to Wabash on December 14, 52-43.
On the other side of the bracket, Manchester (9-11) received a bye. Lewis Cass (14-6) will play Eastern (Greentown) (1-19) in a Tuesday quarterfinal.
Meanwhile, Caston is in an eight-team field at the 1A West Central sectional.
The format calls for two quarterfinals on Tuesday and Wednesday. On opening night, #7 Tri-County (17-1) will play North Newton (6-13). The winner will face the winner of Tuesday’s second quarterfinal between West Central (14-6) and DeMotte Christian (15-5).
Wednesday’s opening round games include the 6 p.m. game with North White (7-13) and a winless South Newton team (0-15). The winner will meet the winner of the Pioneer (10-10) and Caston (7-13) game in a Friday semifinal.
Caston lost to Pioneer on December 17, 40-32.
At the 3A sectional at Fairfield, Tippecanoe Valley (10-10) will open the tournament with a 6 p.m. Tuesday quarterfinal against West Noble (3-17). The winner will play Fairfield (15-5) in a Friday semifinal.
Wawasee (13-7) received the other bye and will play the winner of Tuesday’s other quarterfinal between two top 10 ranked teams, Columbia City (17-4) and NorthWood (16-5).
Oregon-Davis will host a 1A sectional that features two teams with 15 or more wins going into the final week of the regular season.
Two quarterfinals will be played Tuesday. At 6 p.m., Triton (2-19) will square off against Argos (7-14).
Argos won their regular season meeting on November 12, 40-38.
In Tuesday’s second quarterfinal, 14th-ranked Elkhart Christian (15-4) will play Trinity Greenlawn (5-12).
Two more quarterfinals are slated for Wednesday. North Judson (16-4) will play South Central (Union Mills) (8-11) followed by Oregon-Davis (10-9) vs Culver (12-8).
A ranked Bremen girls basketball team is the favorite at the 2A sectional at Knox.
Bremen (19-2), ranked #10 in the current poll, will play in the 6 p.m. sectional quarterfinal on Tuesday. The opponent is a one-win Jimtown team (1-19) averaging only 22 points per game.
Bremen beat Jimtown by 43 on November 15.
LaVille (14-6) received a bye and will play the Bremen – Jimtown winner.
Knox (4-17) will play Winamac (13-8) in the second quarterfinal. The winner will advance to play Career Academy (4-12) in a Friday semifinal.
