Hendricks Green hit three second-quarter three-pointers to establish a 20-9 halftime lead, then outscored the St. Joe Lions 20-7 to record a 40-16 victory in the “A” division championship of the 2025 Shelbyville Central Schools Boys Elementary Basketball Tournament Monday.
Hendricks, playing without the injured Kyson Ash, jumped out to a 9-0 lead and led 11-2 after one quarter.
The Hurricanes (photo) were led in scoring by Jaxx McKinney who tallied 21 points. Cam Zimny added 12 and Javier Rosales had a 3-point basket. Lyric Batten and Blake Dewitt rounded out the Hendricks scoring with two points apiece.
Other Hendricks Green team members are Kellen Foster and Brock Hardesty. Jake Ash and Zach Hardesty served as coaches.
St. Joe was paced by Grady Johnson who had eight points including a pair of 3-pointers. Jadiel Gomez scored four points while Carlos Cuautle-Gutherie and Wes Gwinnup each had two.
Additional St. Joe team members included Harrison Foltz, Ethan Padilla, Rex Fischer and Leo Ortega. St. Joe was coached by Nathan Gwinnup.
Loper White won the “B” division over Hendricks Green by a 9-7 count.
Nabil Alif tossed in six points to lead Loper. Logan Carmony scored two and Ronaldo Pablo finished with one point.
Other Loper roster members are Charlie O’Connor, Julius Ramos, Aaron Astudillo, Bryson Balting and Aiden Edwards. The squad was coached by Cristal Astudillo.
Logan Bolin led the scoring for the Hendricks Green “B” team with four points and Crosby Ross added three.
Additional Hendricks players are Alex Horsley, J.J. Sever, Theo Sosa, Rylen Fricke and Teddy Davis. Amanda Wooten coached the team.
Hendricks Green’s “A” squad entered championship with a 5-0 record as did both Hendricks Green and Loper White in the “B” division. St. Joe came into the title game with a 3-2 slate.
Elementary school sports coordinator Bryan Brown reported that nine teams participated in this year’s “B” division with four teams participating in the “A” class.
