The former Chief of Police for the Greenfield Police Department has announced his candidacy for Sheriff of Hancock County.
John Jester, with more than 35 years of law enforcement experience, is currently serving his second term as a Greenfield City Councilman and is the president of the council.
“My work on the council has further strengthened my connection with the community and deepened my understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our county,” said Jester in a media release.
Jester’s past experience includes building and leading the Community Health Network Police Department from the ground up and working 16 years for the Hancock County Coroner’s Office, including eight years as the elected coroner.

“I am running for Sheriff because I believe Hancock County deserves experienced, ethical, and proven leadership,” said Jester. “I will prioritize transparency, modern policing strategies, community engagement, and partnerships that keep our neighborhoods safe and our law enforcement professionals supported and accountable.
“In the months ahead, I look forward to meeting with as many of you as possible. I want to hear your concerns, your hopes, and your vision for the future of our county. Together, we can build a safer, stronger Hancock County.”
