While motorists have enjoyed the fact that US 231 has been opened through the heart of downtown Greencastle, Greencastle Mayor Lynda Dunbar recently told The Putnam County Post and GIANT fm WREB the road will close again in the near future for more construction.
"I think everyone is really happy with the road being open. INDOT has reached out to me and they are working on how we are going to do the last section, which is from Franklin Street down to the railroad crossing. There is a two block section that needs a new sewer line put in, and they have a plan and the engineering is done," Dunbar said.
Dunbar said INDOT officials have informed her they are planning on doing the road in sections and will have to close the railroad for a "short time."
"They assure me they want to get in and out and don't have the same delays and problems of last year. I am encouraged they have already reached out to talk about the plans," Dunbar said.
In addition, INDOT officials will hold a public meeting at City Hall on March 10 to further discuss plans.
"They still need to get the final coat on, get the sidewalks done and electricity back to our street lights. Once the weather becomes more spring-like, I think we will see them get back out there and finish these items up," Dunbar said.
