With rainfall over the weekend and more in the forecast, Fulton County officials say it is now safer to burn.
Fulton County lifted its countywide burn ban on Monday.
Commissioner President Bryan Lewis confirmed that the burn ban was lifted Monday morning by Fulton County Emergency Management Agency Director Dawn Sewell. With rainfall over the weekend and more in the forecast, officials say it is now safer to burn.
The burn ban was imposed by commissioners on Sept. 16 due to prolonged dry conditions and an elevated risk for fires to spread quickly and become out of control.
Lewis consulted with Rochester Fire Chief T.J. DuBois on the burn ban being lifted. DuBois reports there were no callouts for fires resulting from dry conditions while the ban was in effect.
Sewell had indicated that Fulton County experienced a few grass fires before the burn ban was imposed.
Marshall County additionally has lifted its burn ban. A statewide map of counties that have burn bans is available at in.gov/dhs/burnban.
