A former Logansport Police Officer and his wife agreed to a plea deal recently after the couple forced their adopted six-year-old daughter to stand outside during extreme cold temperatures and hold a degrading sign near the road.
According to court documents, Cody Scott and his wife, Kylie Scott, pleaded guilty to one count of neglect of a dependent and was sentenced on Friday, March 6. In the court agreement, the Cody and Kylie were both sentenced to time served and the conviction was entered as a Class A misdemeanor for the case. An additional count of felony neglect was also dismissed.
The charges stem from an incident in Jan. 2025, when the Scott's had forced their young daughter to stand outside when the weather had dipped to below zero freezing temperatures. Community outrage began after a passerby took a photo of the young girl crying outside and holding a sign that read “I want to stab and kill my brother, I even take an antipsychotic. If you need to give pity, then give it to the victims.”
After multiple 911 calls from community members who were concerned about the girl, the Scott's were eventually arrested and charged with two felony counts of neglect of a dependent. At the time of the 911 call, the concerned citizens stated the young girl appeared to be cold, shivering and emotionally upset while holding the sign.
Court documents state the Scott's had forced the child to hold up other signs in the past as punishment, including making her wear to Walmart. The other signs reportedly read, “I pee on everything and cover it up like a cat,” and “I lie to hurt other people.”
