The Lawrence County Board has a new spending plan for 2026.
They met in regular session Wednesday and voted unanimously in favor of an approximately $10.5 million tentative budget. Among the major items in the budget is $2.6 million for road and bridge repair and $2.1 million for public safety. The general fund, which is the main operational fund for the county, is anticipated to have a $250,000 surplus, depending on circumstances during the year. The county's fiscal status was described as being in "pretty good shape". The tentative budget will now be available for public inspection for 30 days until it is formally passed at the November meeting.
In other actions, the board approved the reappointment of Paul Halter to a 3-year-term on the Allison Mutual Drainage District, approved a resolution of support for Lawrence County agriculture and entered into an engineering agreement with Charleston Engineering for some bridge work to be done about 1.3 miles southwest of Lawrenceville.
