Emergency responders from three fire departments responded to a house fire early Sunday morning on Oak Drive, just north of Bourbon Street Pizza.
Plymouth’s Assistant Fire Chief Chuy Garcia told WTCA the fire started in the northeast corner of the house in a small room that appeared to only have access from the outside. When Plymouth firefighters arrived, smoke was in the house, and the fire was through the roof on the northeast corner. When firefighters got inside that room it was fully involved, and the fire had spread into the attic that is open across the house.
Firefighters trench-cut the roof in the middle of the house to stop the fire from spreading across the entire house.
The north half of the house has extensive damage, and the south half has some smoke damage, but the contents were saved.
Plymouth firefighters were assisted by LaPaz and Argos Fire Departments. They were on the scene for nearly 3 hours and Oak Drive was blocked to traffic as crews battled the fire in wind chills that were in the single digits.
The mother and children were at home at the time of the fire but were able to evacuate safely. Most of the animals were also able to get out. It’s believed some may have been hiding in other rooms of the home, but firefighters found no deceased animals.
Nothing suspicious was found during the clean-up process and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
