An Elkhart County man led law enforcement officers on an extended pursuit spanning Fulton, Pulaski, and Cass counties.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday, a Fulton County deputy attempted to stop a 2014 Ford F-150 on State Road 17 near County Road 100 South in Fulton County. When the deputy initiated the traffic stop, the driver refused to yield and continued to flee for several miles, leading officers through Fulton, Cass, and Pulaski counties.
As the pursuit continued, Trooper Abby Russell executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver near County Road 950 South and County Road 500 West, causing the truck to spin off the roadway and strike a post. As officers were exiting their police vehicles to perform a high risk stop, they heard a gunshot coming from the Ford. Moments later, officers approached the driver, identified as 50-year-old Aaron T. Holliday of Elkhart, and discovered he had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Holliday was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Fulton County Coroner’s Office. No officers discharged their firearms during this incident.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. There is no further information to be released at this time. Notification to the family of the deceased has been made.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by troopers from the Peru District, as well as officers from the Winamac Police Department, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.
