The Lyford Fire Department was dispatched Sunday to the 6000 block of South U.S. 41 for a reported brush fire.
About 2:30 p.m., responding units discovered approximately 25 acres acres actively burning. Due to the size and rapid spread of the fire, immediate mutual aid was requested from the Rosedale and Mecca Fire Departments.
As the incident escalated, additional support was provided by Black Diamond, Bridgeton, Rockville, Marshall, Montezuma, Fairview and Helt Fire Departments.
Parke County EMS, the Parke County Sheriff’s Office, and the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
The Lyford Fire Department issued a thank you to the Parke County Sheriff's Office Dispatch for getting all the resources dispatched to the scene.
In total, the response included approximately 30 firefighters, two drones, four firefighting-equipped UTVs, and a personal UTV. Crews worked collaboratively to contain and extinguish the fire.
The Lyford Fire Department wishes to express its appreciation to the community members who supplied food and beverages to personnel during the operation. Their support was invaluable and greatly appreciated.
