According to a recent report from the state, the average annual salary for teachers in Indiana hit $60,557 during the 2023-24 school year.
State Sen. Stacey Donato reports that Indiana's average teacher pay has surpassed a goal of $60,000 set nearly four years ago.
"Teachers play a vital role in our communities, and it is important they are compensated fairly for the work they do with young Hoosiers," Donato said, adding that the Next Level Teacher Compensation Commission recommended the goal of increasing the average statewide teacher salary to $60,000 nearly four years ago.
"I'm pleased to share Indiana recently met that goal," she added.
According to a recent report from the state, the average annual salary for teachers in Indiana hit $60,557 during the 2023-24 school year. With benefits added in, the average teacher compensation in Indiana is nearly $80,000.
"I'm also pleased to share that, in Indiana, the total compensation for all teachers has surpassed $5 billion and 98 percent of school districts gave teachers a raise last year," Donato said. "Teacher pay is set locally, but at the Statehouse, I was happy to support a new law in 2023 that ensures at least 62 percent of schools' state tuition support is used for teacher salaries and benefits."
