During Foster Care Month, the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) celebrates, recognizes and shows appreciation to more than 3,900 licensed foster parents throughout the state.
Ensuring foster parents are supported and valued is a goal of Indiana Gov. Mike Braun.
“Words can’t express how grateful I am that we have people like you who open their hearts and homes to children in need,” Gov. Braun said in a video message to foster parents. “Our state is stronger because of foster parents like you who advocate for and ensure children are loved, supported and, above all, safe.”
Every May, DCS makes it a priority to celebrate foster parents, letting them know their dedication and compassion toward Hoosier children never goes unnoticed or unappreciated.
“Our agency relies on foster parents to keep children safe, loved and supported,” DCS Director Adam Krupp said. “It’s why DCS is making it a priority to embed the Foster Care Bill of Rights into our agency’s culture.”
The Indiana Foster Care Bill of Rights has five main articles aimed to maintain positive and supportive relationships between DCS and foster parents: communication, safety and privacy, support, collaboration, and respect. The document serves to remind current foster parents of this DCS promise to them as well as encourage more families to become foster parents.
