Bring your acoustic instruments and lawn chairs!
The public is invited to participate in “250 Years of the Music of The United States of America,” a free music celebration in the Shelby County Public Library’s outdoor plaza on Monday, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Crossroads of America SongFarmers encompasses acoustic musicians from Shelby, Rush and Hancock counties. The circle meets at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1560 North Michigan Road, to play music and network; they also travel to different places in the community. Gatherings have been held at various locations, including: The Strand Theatre, Charles Davis Mansion, the Shelbyville YMCA, Blue River Memorial Park, Morristown Park, The H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts in Greenfield, Greenfield Music and Shelby County Public Library.
The local chapter is part of a national organization formed by Michael Johnathon, host of the PBS show WoodSongs. It is affiliated with the World Front Porch Alliance (WFPA).
The group is open to anyone who has an interest in gathering at community sites and playing acoustic music. Hoosier singer-songwriter and musician, Robert “Buck” Rogers, Jr., and Lori Ball, of Morristown, are co-organizers for the local SongFarmers chapter.
