Plymouth’s Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson received an unusual request late Friday from the company that has been contracted to complete a total restoration of the water tower behind the Coke plant on PIDCO drive.
O&J Coating Inc. from Hurst, TX can’t find a location to place the travel trailer they use for housing due to the Blueberry Festival. O&J have crews coming from Vermont, Michigan and Texas to do the work, so they need a location for 2 to 3 travel trailers.
The company asked if it would be possible to temporarily place the travel trailers at the water tower site until a camping site opens after the festival.
Davidson said they already have restroom facilities and a hand washing station on site. The travel trailers have holding tanks and Davidson said they will be allowed to dump if necessary, at the treatment plant.
Police Chief John Weir was made aware of the situation and Davidson made it clear that it is a temporary situation and that works should be on their best behavior. He said, “They work hard and play hard. We just want to make sure everything good.” Davidson said they generally work from daylight to dark.
Councilman Don Ecker asked about liability concerns and the City Attorney didn’t feel there would be any concerns.
The city council unanimously approved the request to temporarily permit up to 3 travel trailers at the work site until after the Blueberry Festival.
