Jonathan Landing from JAJ Appraisals will be conducting an appraisal of the Bowen Center building on Dora Lane
Earlier this month the County Commissioners approved an engagement letter to obtain an appraisal on the property for $1,600.
County Attorney Jim Clevenger reminded the commissioner that a commercial appraisal must be completed and JAJ has done numerous commercial building appraisals in the area and was recommended by three area residential appraisers.
To be able to purchase a property the commissioners need two appraisals are required and the county can pay no more than the median of the two appraisals.
Clevenger said he does not believe a second appraisal is necessary because the Bowen Center has already had an appraisal completed that the county can use. He also said the proposed purchase price is well below the appraisal.
Marshall County Commissioner Stan Klotz and Health Department Administrator Sandy Dunfee have been interested in purchasing the blue-roofed building on Dora Lane so the County Health Department can move to a larger facility. Currently, they rent space in the Community Resource Center and if they move to the main floor to get additional space the rent will increase dramatically. The Health Department plans to offer additional services to the citizens of Marshall County with the larger facility.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer asked what the next step is after getting the appraisal back and Klotz said to decide if the county should move forward and determine funding. Klotz said the Health Department has some funding to assist with the purchase.
Overmyer said the AC units are old and need to be replaced and he was told the furnace needs to be replaced. Klotz said the boilers need some minor upgrades, but all the HVAC is toward their end of life.
