The owner of a convenience store and gas station near the Shelbyville Boys and Girls Club is preparing for expansion.
K&B Partners, LLC, operates the Valero convenience store at 603 Colescott St. In May of 2023, the company purchased the three-bedroom residence at 713 S. Miller Street, located directly south of the convenience store, and cleared the property with the goal of constructing a larger store on site.
Before that can occur, the land the house sat on must be rezoned from R1 (Single-Family Residential) to BG (Business General) to match the Colescott property.
On Monday at City Hall, the Shelbyville Common Council approved the zoning request, 5-0. Council members Mike Johnson and Linda Sanders were not present at the meeting.
The zoning request will now be presented at the next Plan Commission meeting on June 24 for a public hearing. If the request receives a favorable recommendation from the commission, it will go back to the common council for final approval.

In another zoning request Monday, a former church building in Shelbyville may revert back to that use.
The Family Services and Prevention building at 2021 S. Riley Highway is sitting vacant. A church in Franklin is looking to relocate to Shelbyville, according to Shelbyville Plan Director Adam Rude, and wants to have a daycare on site as well.
The property is currently zoned R1 and will need to be rezoned Institutional to have a day care on site. The rezone request was approved, 5-0, Monday and now moves to the Plan Commission for a public hearing next week.
