Two traffic stops conducted by Plymouth Police led to the arrest of a South Bend man and a Rochester man.
Just before midnight on Friday, July 4th, Officer Face conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Michigan Street near Novelty Street. The vehicle was observed leaving the Taco Bell parking lot, driving south on Michigan Street with no headlights or taillights. While closing on the vehicle, the officer also observed that the vehicle was unable to maintain lanes and struck a curb when pulling over.
18-year-old Rylan Julian of South Bend was taken into custody, transported to the Marshall County Jail, and booked in with charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage.
Early in the morning of July 5th, at approximately 4:30, a Plymouth Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 31 near 9A Road for a moving violation.
The driver was identified as Daniel Ruiz-Parra, 21, of Rochester. Ruiz-Parra was found to have never been issued a driver's license and was taken into custody, transported to the County Jail, and booked for driving without obtaining a license.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
