The city of Lawrenceville has issued a statement via its Facebook page on the status of the wastewater treatment plant located on 3rd Street. The Illinois Attorney General's Office filed suit in Lawrence County Circuit Court on alleged illegal discharges from the plant without a valid permit and other alleged violations found by EPA inspectors.
The statement says that the plant has returned to full operational status with all components functioning and operating with discharge from the facility meeting all standards. The lab located in the plant has also returned to full operational status with manholes and pipelines repaired, eliminating unexpected discharges into the river.
The statement also addressed EPA testing of the city's public drinking water, saying that the city water system has always been tested to ensure its safety and that the city water supply is within EPA regulations and guidelines.
