While the second floor of the Red Rock Inn was vacated by order of the city due to unsafe conditions over a month ago, Plymouth’s Building Commissioner, Dennis Manuwal, recently observed people on the second floor and initiated an investigation. He found maintenance workers were demolishing some of the second-floor motel rooms. They were ordered to stop work.
Manuwal asked the Board of Public Works and Safety how they wanted to handle the situation.
A structural engineer was hired by Mr. Patel, the owner of The Red Rock Inn, who resided in New Jersey, to assess the extent of deterioration and determine the necessary work required to make the second-floor balconies and stairways of the motel safe.
Manuwal said a contractor came in and applied for his City of Plymouth contractor’s registration and a building permit to begin making improvements, but failed to provide insurance documentation, so the permit was put on hold. The building inspector reminded the board that the Red Rock Inn had 30 days to make the necessary improvements to bring the issues up to code, and that it hasn’t even started.
The Board of Public Works and Safety immediately issued the maximum fine of $2,500 to Mr. Patel for failure to act on the Order to Repair.
