Last week members of the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety opened a single bid for fuel for the city street department.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi told members the only bid was from Ceres Solutions from Wabash for diesel and gasoline.
Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt read the bids. The first was for 22,500 gallons of ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel for highway use. The transport price per gallon was $3.517 per gallon.
The second bid was for 40,000 gallons of 87-octane gasoline. The net transport price with all taxes the city must pay was $2.99 per gallon.
Also included in the bid packet were fixed pricing rates which change daily as the market changes. The bid would be guaranteed for March 1, 2023, until February 29, 2024. Marquardt said the city got “one heck of a price on diesel last year,” at $3 a gallon average. Gasoline averaged $3.26 a gallon in 2023.
Marquardt said gas is a little cheaper this time and diesel is a little higher than 2022.
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved purchasing fuel from Ceres Solutions and allowed Marquardt to work with them to lock in the best pricing for the city.
