Authorities in Vigo County are conducting a death investigation.
Just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday, an individual was walking their dog in northern Terre Haute near Tuttle Drive, when they observed a body lying next to a creek bed. Troopers of the Putnamville Post responded to the scene and upon their arrival discovered a deceased female. Detectives from the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation.
The Vigo County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the deceased female as Melissa Kernstein, 57, of Terre Haute, Indiana.
The Indiana State Police assures that there is no threat to the public. This is an active investigation.
