Ray’s Demolition has been hired to bring down the Adams Glass building (photo) at the corner of S. Harrison St. and Broadway near downtown Shelbyville.
The Clayton-based company’s bid of $247,950 to bring down the building was approved Tuesday morning at City Hall by the Shelbyville Board of Works.
Demolition is expected to take place in June.
In other board business:
- Mayor Scott Furgeson noted that the railroad crossing work on N. Riley Highway (photo) will begin May 27 and shut down traffic flow for two weeks.
- In conjunction with the closed railroad crossing, construction will begin on the roundabout at Michigan Road at the Knauf property entrance. A second roundabout on N. Riley Highway at the entrance to the Isabella Farms subdivision will follow later this summer
- O’Neal Steel will be allowed to run trucks through downtown Shelbyville for the two-week period the railroad crossing will be closed. That is the only way to get on average, 20 trucks arriving and 20 trucks leaving the facility per day.
- The roundabout construction at Shelbyville High School at the intersection of Miller St. and McKay Road also will begin May 27. The school year ends May 23. Graduation takes place that night. There will be a 60-day window to get traffic flowing through that intersection again before the start of the 2025-26 school year.
