The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved a request to close six parking spaces in front of 310 North Michigan Street and the sidewalk during working hours for an exterior restoration project.
Louis Hiza informed the board that they will begin demolishing the façade on the third and fourth floors of the North Michigan Street building within the next month. The parking spaces in front of the building are the only location suitable for placing a dumpster and a crane, which are needed to transport the scaffolding, materials, and debris to and from the second-story flat roof. They also mentioned that the walkway between 310 and 322 North Michigan will be closed to pedestrian traffic. It was noted that the sidewalk will only be closed during working hours.
The South Bend owners of 310 N Michigan Street LLC have applied to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for permission to block off the parking spaces and expect to receive the permit by next week.
The project is expected to take six to eight weeks. They anticipate removing 100 tons of masonry debris from the upper portion of the building and replacing it with new material.
