Konner McCurdy is not your average 18 year old.
The Parke Heritage graduate and current Indiana State University student balances a busy course load and social calendar.
However, he is also a business owner, as McCurdy owns Bloom & Birdie Coffeehouse, 1330 N Lincoln Rd., Rockville.
McCurdy got into business, following in his mother's footsteps as she owns a daycare.
"We went and looked at the site, and it was actually to small to be a daycare for her, but it had a drive thru. The drive thru sold it as a coffee house, and my mom asked if I wanted to open a coffee house. I was like sure. I have always loved that. It is so nice to follow in my mom's footsteps," McCurdy told The Parke County Post.

McCurdy said he believed coffee would be an easier route than having a full blown restaurant.
"I felt coffee would be easiest compared to having an actual restaurant and making food," he said.
With a soft opening and a ribbon cutting in the rear view mirror, McCurdy is now ready to fully operate his business.
"Those opportunities gave us some perspective on our flaws. It feels good to be open, and I am ready. I see so many familiar faces and everyone is so welcoming," McCurdy said.
McCurdy said it "feels good" to be a business student at Indiana State and operating his own business.
"When we talk about business, I know a little bit about it and it is crazy. My classmates don't know, but it is cool," McCurdy said.
As for what customers can expect when they visit, McCurdy said there is quite a bit.
"Customers can expect good coffee, good service and a nice place to be. We have dine in capabilities. We offer lattes, cold brew and every coffee you can think about," McCurdy said.
Bloom & Birdie Coffeehouse is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
