Bikes for Kids giveaway 750 bikes this Saturday

Bikes For Kids, Inc., is a Northern Indiana-based 501(C)3 non-profit organization, geared toward helping kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to those most in need. They collect and refurbish bikes with the help of volunteers and give them away on Easter Weekend, the start of the riding season.

Bikes for Kids will host its 5th Annual Bicycle and Helmet Giveaway event this Saturday, March 30th at Plymouth High School. 750 bicycles will be given away on Saturday.

Between 10:00 a.m. and noon on Saturday, 2nd-grade students who are currently on a free or reduced lunch program and completed the paperwork provided to them by the school will receive a new bike and helmet. Siblings of qualified 2nd-graders will receive a reconditioned bicycle and helmet. Area schools, including Plymouth, Culver, John Glenn, Triton, Bremen, Argos, Union-North, Oregon-Davis, and area Christian Schools should have provided qualifying children with the form in advance. Those forms must be brought to Saturday’s giveaway event.

Between noon and 2:00 p.m., Bikes for Kids will be providing bikes to all other qualifying students in Marshall County schools, in all grades, who are currently on a free or reduced lunch program from their school. These students will receive a refurbished bike and a new helmet. Home-schooled children who present a SNAP, TANF, EBT (Hoosier Works), or Medicaid card at the door will also receive a refurbished bike.

Children must be present to receive a bicycle, with no exceptions. Parents or guardians must sign a waiver and release of liability form at the event. Bike sizes will be matched to the child by local Certified Bicycling Instructors and bikes will be given away on a first-come first-serve basis.

Participants should enter through Door #5 at Plymouth High School.

The Blissville Community Church in Plymouth will serve lunch at the event, hot dogs, chips, and bottled water.

Culver Pediatrics Center provided 700 new bike helmets for this weekend’s giveaway event and Marshall County Pediatric Physicians provided 80 helmets.
