Battery on Parke County deputy lands man behind bars

A battery on a Parke County Sheriff's deputy has landed a man behind bars in the Parke County Jail.

According to a police report, a deputy responded to 10783 North 400 West near Tangier for a call of a domestic situation. Upon arrival, officers located the subjects, and while gathering information, Jose L. Paniagua, 24, began attacking the deputy. 

During the struggle, Paniagua bit the deputy and managed to get the Taser away from the deputy before being subdued until backup arrived. 

The officer sustained injuries and was transported to Union Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Paniagua was arrested and faces a Level 3 felony charge of disarming a public official resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony charge of battery on a law enforcement official resulting in serious bodily injury and a level 6 felony of resisting law enforcement. He was being held on a $50,000 bond.
