Wednesday evening, Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey and his wife Cindy were informed that their son Zachary, his wife Kelsey and their two young children, 12-year-old Vada Rose and 7-year-old Samuel were killed in a helicopter accident in southeastern Montana late Wednesday. Another grandson, 10-year-old Finn was not on the flight and is safe. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Bailey/Del Mar campaign issued a statement early Thursday on the tragedy saying that both Bailey and his wife are heartbroken and devastated by the loss. The Baileys deeply appreciate the kindness and support they have received and are asking for privacy over the next several days as they grieve during this difficult time. The status of the campaign was not addressed in the statement.
