The Plymouth Airport was a busy place on Thursday afternoon with dozens of people there to witness a transformational event.
Alpha Flight owner Dan Marohn signed an agreement to purchase the first four training planes manufactured by Maloy Aircraft.
Maloy Aircraft, owned by Don Maloy, recently unveiled the MA-1 Blue Jay. The Blue Jay was designed to fill the void in training pilots for the commercial flight industry. The planes are built with the ability to provide a flight experience closer to the speed and characteristics of commercial planes.
Plymouth's Alpha Flight will continue to provide training to students from the area Career Technical Education, with the addition of these trainers. Alpha Flight is also expanding their training programs to include aircraft maintenance.
A crowd of local, county, and state officials was on hand to hear about the program. Several industry leaders were also present to hear about the expanded training programs.
The new taxiway at the airfield makes additional operations at the east end of the runway more viable. Additional hangers and training facilities are under consideration to accommodate the increased training.
