The National Weather Service has confirmed that three tornadoes touched down in Marshall County during Thursday night's severe weather event, with damage surveys still ongoing and additional touchdowns under investigation.
Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Jack Garner announced the confirmed tornadoes and urged residents to continue submitting damage reports as National Weather Service teams work through the affected areas.
The first confirmed tornado was rated an EF1, with estimated peak winds of 90 mph. It touched down at 10:11 PM south of 8A Road on King Road and lifted just one minute later at 10:12 PM, carving a path approximately 0.73 miles long and 125 yards wide.
The tornado uprooted and snapped multiple trees and damaged a barn near its starting point before tracking northeast, where it flipped a center pivot irrigation system and tore through a grove of trees, snapping several more. The circulation continued northeast, knocking down additional trees north of 8A Road before lifting on the north side of that road — but not before inflicting significant damage to a second barn.
A second tornado, rated EF0 with winds of approximately 70 mph, struck the east side of Argos. The National Weather Service is still assessing the full extent of damage in that area.
A third tornado touched down northeast of Bourbon just minutes after the Argos twister, rated EF1 with peak winds of 100 mph. That storm tracked northeast, eventually crossing into Kosciusko County before lifting.
Surveys Ongoing — Residents Asked to Report Damage
Beyond the three confirmed tornadoes, additional damage has been documented across Marshall County that appears consistent with straight-line winds rather than tornado activity. National Weather Service survey teams are continuing their assessments due to the widespread and extensive nature of the damage across the entire forecast area.
Officials say they are particularly interested in receiving damage reports from the east side of Argos and an area northeast of Bourbon, where initial assessments may have missed some impacts.
Residents who experienced storm damage are encouraged to submit reports to assist the ongoing National Weather Service investigation. Additional tornado confirmations for Marshall County remain possible as surveys continue.
