Plymouth Police officers made two separate traffic stops on Sunday, July 19th, resulting in the arrests of drivers from Lafayette and Fort Wayne on suspended license charges.
The first stop occurred at 11:15 a.m. when Patrolman Thornton initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Veterans Parkway after observing the driver operating a vehicle while distracted. While speaking with the driver, officers observed THC paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. The driver, Jamie C. Smith, 46, of Lafayette, was also found to have a suspended driver's license with a prior suspension on record. Smith was taken into custody and booked into the Marshall County Jail on charges of possession of paraphernalia and driving while suspended with a prior.
Later that afternoon, Officer Krynock stopped a vehicle driven by Francisco Donis, 53, of Fort Wayne, for a traffic infraction on U.S. 30 at Plymouth-Goshen Trail. A check of Donis's license revealed a suspended status with a prior suspension. Donis was lodged in the Marshall County Jail for driving while suspended with a prior.
Both individuals were held on $500 cash bonds.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
