An 18-year-old from South Bend was arrested late Saturday night after Marshall County deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle that had been parked in the area for several hours.
According to a news release from Deputy Ash of the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, deputies were dispatched to the area of Olive Road and 3B Road at approximately 10:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 4.
Upon arriving at the scene and investigating the complaint, officers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. During the search, deputies located suspected marijuana and alcoholic beverage containers inside the car.
The driver was identified as 18-year-old Rylan T. Julian of South Bend. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Marshall County Jail.
Julian was booked and lodged on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and minor in possession of alcohol, a Class C misdemeanor, and held on a $250 cash bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
