Shelbyville junior Brody Jeanette will compete in four sectional championships Saturday at the New Palestine Sectional.
At Thursday’s preliminary races, Jeanette finished seventh in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:51.89 and sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:05.28).
The top eight finishers in each event Thursday earned a berth in Saturday’s championship races. The next eight finishers also return Saturday for consolation races.
The quartet of Jeanette, Anderson Mollenkopf, Luca Kinker and Everett Stegemiller advanced in the 200 freestyle relay (fourth in 1:37.24) and 400 freestyle relay (sixth in 1:42.64).
Stegemiller and Mollenkopf also qualified for sectional championship events Saturday.
Stegemiller placed seventh in the 100 butterfly in 59.97.
Mollenkopf and New Castle’s Noah Bush tied for eighth in the 50 freestyle at 23.80. The pair had to return to the pool for a swim-off to determine the final qualifier. Mollenkopf touched the wall first in 23.52 to defeat Bush (23.64).
Qualifying for consolation races Saturday were Kinker (13th in 200 freestyle in 2:01.5 and 11th in 500 freestyle in 5:25.8), Stegemiller (11th in 200 individual medley in 2:18.13), Mollenkopf (9th in 100 backstroke in 1:02.61), Tanner Jones (15th in 100 butterfly in 1:13.2) and Colton Maloney (16th in 100 butterfly in 1:21.7).
