The Class A, Sectional 59 boys basketball tournament at Edinburgh in March is shaping up to be highly entertaining.
With Waldron’s 51-42 victory at Tri Saturday, the Mohawks joined the Titans as the only two teams in the field with double-digit wins. However, three more teams – North Decatur, Edinburgh and Morristown – have eight wins apiece.
At Tri, Luke Myers scored 10 points in the second quarter to help Waldron build a 26-15 halftime lead.
Six different Mohawks scored in the third quarter when the lead extended to 39-26. Lucas Shaw scored five of his team-high 15 points in the fourth to secure the victory.
Myers finished with 11 points for Waldron (10-9). Parker Douglas, Eli Stewart and Ray Wagner each scored six.
Gracen Huffman topped Tri (12-6) with 12 points. Cooper Engle and Eli Murphy each finished with eight points.
Waldron travels Friday to South Decatur (5-12).
In another prep basketball game Saturday:
Alexandria 52, Morristown 47
At Morristown, the host Yellow Jackets led after each of the first three quarters but allowed the Tigers to score 17 fourth-quarter points and steal the win.
Alexandria (5-13) had five players score between 7-12 points, led by Bryson Eckler’s 12. Cam McAtee finished with 10.
The Tigers made eight three-pointers.
Kellen Crim led Morristown (8-10) with 20 points. Dalton McMichael finished with 18.
Morristown hosts Southwestern (5-11) Thursday in a rematch from the Shelby County Tournament semifinal round that the Yellow Jackets won, 52-29.
