A 20-9 lead after one quarter was a good way for Waldron boys basketball to start the season. A 26-point third quarter made it even better.
The Mohawks pulled away for a 71-51 win at home Saturday afternoon over Knightstown (0-2).
Eli Stewart made 9 of 15 shot attempts and finished with a team-high 23 points. The sophomore also had seven rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Ethan Moody and Luke Myers each scored 14 in the win. Moody had six rebounds and two steals.
Waldron led 30-20 at halftime then outscored the Panthers 26-19 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 17 points.
Waldron is at Triton Central (1-1) Friday in a girls/boys varsity-only doubleheader.

Tri 70, Southwestern 39
At Tri, six different Titans scored at least eight points to improve Tri to 2-0 this season.
Bryan Kinder and Mason Butler each scored a game-high 15 points. Eli Murphy followed with 12 points. Jonah Cox and Lukus Frazier each scored nine and Carson Ewing had eight.
Tri led 35-25 at halftime then outscored the Spartans 20-3 in the third quarter to open up the lead to 27 points heading into the final quarter.
Dusty Stevens led Southwestern (0-2) with 12 points. Jay Utley had 10 and Landon Drake added eight.
Tri won the junior varsity game, 44-31. Chandler Holt led the Spartans with 13 points.
Southwestern is at Triton Central (1-1) Saturday.
Girls basketball
Greenwood Christian 57, Waldron 41
At Waldron, Greenwood Christian outscored the Mohawks 18-5 in the second quarter to pull away and secure the victory.
Kate Reed connected on five three-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points to lead the Cougars (2-4). Nadia Konecky added 10.
Emerson Lindsey led Waldron (3-3) with 17 points. Brooklyn Milbourn finished with 12 and Jackie Corlett had 10.
Waldron again played without leading scorer Grace Fischer (20.3 ppg), who is recovering from a knee injury but expected back soon.
Waldron is at Triton Central (3-2) Friday.
Trinity Lutheran 72, Southwestern 14
At Southwestern, the Cougars used a 30-point first quarter to race away for the victory.
Marley Warren led Trinity Lutheran (3-1) with 18 points. Marissa Baker finished with 13 and Rachel Bonde added 12.
Bryla Dunbar led the Spartans (1-6) with six points. Maci Murray had five.
Southwestern hosts Hauser (6-1) Tuesday.
Monrovia JV Tournament
Triton Central’s junior varsity team defeated Indian Creek and Monrovia Saturday to capture the tournament championship.
The Tigers topped Indian Creek, 49-35. Hayden McMichael scored a game-high 16 points for Triton Central. Rylee Pruitt finished with 11.
In the championship, three Tigers scored in double digits to lead the team to a 46-30 victory.
Eliana Joy led the Tigers with 14 points. McMichael finished with 12 and Pruitt added 11.
