The host Golden Bears opened the Shelbyville Tennis Sectional Wednesday with a 4-1 win over Southwestern.
Shelbyville will face Triton Central today at 5 p.m. in one semifinal match. The other semifinal has Morristown taking on Waldron.
The sectional championship match is Friday at Shelbyville High School.
On Wednesday, the Golden Bears swept the doubles matches and got strong performances at No. 1 singles and No. 3 singles to bring an end to the Spartans’ season.
At No. 1 singles, Reece Prickett defeated Kyle Beck, 6-1, 6-0. Kody Sellers had a similar result at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Caleb McDonald.
Southwestern’s lone win came at No. 2 singles where James Oliver bested Kashton Laycock, 6-4, 6-4.
At No. 1 doubles, Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong defeated Southwestern’s Jackson Burcham and Chris Cecil, 6-0, 6-0.
Aiden Alton and Jack VanWye produced a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles over David Coulston and Clayton Randolph.

At University, the host Trailblazers improved to 7-6 this season with a shutout victory over the Tigers (8-7).
Cheyenne Allen was credited with 10 saves in goal for Triton Central, who travels to Greensburg (7-7) Saturday.
