Prep Report: Shelbyville freshman notches hat trick in varsity debut

Shelbyville freshman Camille Chaney scored a hat trick in her first varsity contest to lead the Golden Bears to a season-opening 9-0 win Monday over Martinsville.

Brigid McKenney tallied two goals while Braelyn Grant, Stella Cunningham, Alyna Castanon and Adrianna St. Bernard each had goals to finish off the Artesians.

Lucille Haacker had four saves in goal to complete the shutout.

Girls golf

Shelbyville 220, Greenwood 241

At Valle Vista Golf Club, Hana Stenger posted the low round of 50 to take the medalist honor and lead the Golden Bears to their first Hoosier Legends Conference match victory.

Julie Garrison followed with a 53 and Sophia Bragg finished at 56. Lilly Huesman’s 61 rounded out the Shelbyville scorecard.

North Decatur 237, Edinburgh 272, Southwestern Inc.

At North Branch Golf Course, Macy Kinker posted a 50 to lead the host Chargers to the victory and secure medalist honor for the match.

Sophia Pace led Edinburgh with a 62.

Kaylee Pike topped the Spartans’ scorecard with a 63. Izzy Andrews shot 68 and Addalynn Johnson finished at 70.

Boys soccer

Morristown 0, Triton Central 0

At Triton Central, the Shelby County foes played to a scoreless draw.

Boys tennis

Seymour 4, Waldron 1

Played at Shelbyville due to construction on Seymour’s courts, Waldron’s lone win came at No. 1 singles where Charlie Fischer defeated Seymour’s Carter Stein, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

The Owls won the other four matches in straight sets.

At No. 2 singles, Dane Thompson topped Lincoln Fischer, 6-3, 6-2.

Cash Stein defeated Waldron freshman Noah Leap, 6-1, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Braylan Busby and David Lemming bested Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer, 6-2, 7-5.

Gus Henry and Max Payne defeated Owen Hartman and Kevin Crouch at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-3.

Volleyball

Triton Central def. Whiteland, 25-19, 10-25, 25-22, 25-14

At Triton Central, Lucy May finished with a team-high 12 kills to lead the Tigers to their first win of the season.

Anna Kemper collected 29 assists. Addy Gibbs had seven kills and five blocks.

Triton Central won the junior varsity match, 25-15, 25-20. Maecy Cord led the Tigers with nine service aces and four kills.

Indian Creek def. Waldron, 25-11, 25-12, 25-14

At Indian Creek, Maleah Williams led the visiting Mohawks with eight kills.

Ashlyn Ramsey had eight assists.
