Pilgrims win baseball opener

Plymouth used five pitchers and a big third inning to win the Pilgrims baseball season opener.

The Pilgrims (1-0) toppled New Haven to begin the spring season, 10-3. After jumping out to a one-run lead on a first inning score, the Pilgrims opened up the game by scoring seven times in the third.

"I thought we came out and did what needed to be done in game one. A lot of guys got opportunities, and we continued to get better in some areas. The big third inning started with some good approaches at the plate. We will look to continue to build on those and the quality pitching we got out of the five guys on the mound," said head coach Ryan Wolfe.

Nick Manzuk, Malachi Sieh, and Caleb Bowling each worked an inning on the mound, with Manzuk recording the victory. Ryan Jolly and Preston Wolfe pitched two innings each. Combined, Plymouth pitchers struck out nine New Haven batters.

Trey Delp led the Pilgrims offence with three runs driven in and a run scored while going 1-for-4 at the plate. Kaden Milliser and Preston Wolfe each recorded two RBI. Sieh and Bowling picked up the other RBI.

Wolfe, Milliser, Delp and Sieh each doubled in the game. Wolfe also tripled.

New Haven (0-3) scored its runs with a single tally in the fifth and two more in the final frame.

Plymouth goes to South bend Tuesday to play St. Joe.
