Hecklinski comes from the college ranks to rebuild Goshen football program

Goshen High School has turned to the college ranks for its next football coach.

Pending school board approval on January 8, Joseph Hecklinski is expected to be named to the RedHawks new coach.

Hecklinski has spent ten years as coaching at the collegiate level with stops at Manchester, Marian, Butler and, most recently, Ball State. Much of his work involves the offensive side of the ball working with quarterbacks, receivers and running backs. Hecklinski just wrapped up his fifth season in Muncie as the Ball State running backs coach and recruiting coordinator.

The South Bend St. Joseph graduate went on to play his college football at Marian University where he was part of the program’s national championship team in 2012 and the starting quarterback in 2013.

His uncle, Ron Hecklinski, was the head men's basketball coach at Mishawaka for five seasons after several seasons at Anderson High School. His counsin, Jeff Hecklinski, was the wide receivers coach for Ball State and, most recently, the offensive coordinator at San Diego State.

Hecklinski is a licensed educator with a double major in Mathematics and Secondary Education, along with a minor in Economics.

A press release from Goshen Community Schools notes that Hecklinski, his wife Sarah, and their newborn son are excited to return to northern Indiana.

Hecklinski replaces Tom Wogomon. Wogomon coached the RedHawks for two seasons compiling a 3-17 overall record including just 1-9 this past season.

The Goshen football program has had only two above .500 seasons in the last 21 years, 2016 and 2007.
