Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark has been named Associated Press Player of the Week after averaging 26 points, 9.2 assists and five rebounds in two games.
The Fever beat the Phoenix Mercury and the Seattle Storm in their first games back from the Olympics break.
Clark broke the WNBA rookie single-season assist record against Seattle and currently leads the league in assists at 8.3 per game.
“If you would have told me I would lead the league in assists coming in here in my rookie season I probably would have told you you’re lying,” Clark said.
Indiana is the only team in the WNBA with multiple AP Player of the Week award winners. Aliyah Boston was named AP Player of the Week in June.
The Fever are back in action Saturday against the Minnesota Lynx. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. on Bally Sports Indiana.
Minnesota is 19-8 overall and third in the league standings. Indiana is 13-15 and in seventh.
