The Lawrenceville baseball Indians battled hard at home Tuesday but dropped a 5-3 Little Illini Conference (LIC) contest to the Newton Eagles.
The Indians did have the tying run at the plate and were threatening when the game ended.
The visitors scored 5 runs on 6 hits and committed 3 errors while the Tribe scored 3 runs on 7 hits with 3 errors.
Neilan Bickers had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Emery Ivers had 2 hits and Wyalan Bice had a hit and RBI for Lawrenceville, but it was not enough.
Ivers took the pitching loss as he went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Garrett Moorehead gave up 1 run in 1 inning of relief.
The loss snapped a modest 2 game winning streak for the Indians, who are 8-6.
They will host Vincennes Rivet Thursday at Unit 20 Ballpark on "Senior Day."
