Plymouth – Robert D. Sullivan, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth. He was born on July 2, 1935 in Plymouth, IN, the youngest of eight children of John and Orpha Sullivan.
Robert was a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 1953, and a 1954 graduate of the South Bend College of Commerce. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from July 1957 to July 1961, during which he spent a year at Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY in an intensive study program of the Russian language. From there he was assigned to the remote Alaskan Aleutian Island of Shemya to monitor and collect military voice signals of the then U.S.S.R. After his discharge, he returned to Indiana University in Bloomington and graduated with the Class of 1963 majoring in accounting. He remained a loyal Hoosier basketball supporter.
After graduating from I.U., Bob began his career in accounting as a tax auditor for the State of California in Los Angeles and Sacramento which spanned over 25 years. After retirement, he moved to Sun City Center, Florida in 2005.
Bob had a life-long association with the United Church of Christ beginning when he was a young child and continuing throughout his adult life in various churches throughout the country. Because of his accounting background, he served as church treasurer for many years at several churches in California. Music was a large part of his life, beginning in the Plymouth School systems and continuing throughout the years. In addition to singing in choirs, Bob served as a pianist and/or organist at various churches for many years. Because of this intertwining of music and religion throughout his life, Bob chose to have this represented by music notes intertwined with a cross on the face plate of his mausoleum.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Orpha; brothers, Ivo, Ronald, Dale, and Verle Sullivan; sisters, Ilo Williams, Vera Pletcher, and Irene Kiger. Bob has many nieces and nephews along with their families that survive him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 11AM-1PM at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 1PM with Life Celebrant James Smart officiating.
