Maria Elisa Soria, 90, of Plymouth, Indiana passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center of Plymouth, surrounded by her loving family.
Maria was born on June 8, 1935 in Edcouch, Texas to Juan Montano and Josefa Costillo Montano. She spent her childhood around her dad’s small grocery store, working on the farms, harvesting crops, and playing games outside with her siblings and extended family. Anything that involved running was her absolute favorite. In Lambert, Mississippi on January 16, 1955, Maria married Antonio Soria. Through their journey together they had 5 children, and spent time in Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Illinois before finally making Indiana their home. Maria Soria was a very hard worker with a strong work ethic, which she passed down to her children. She worked with much pride as a caser operator for DelMonte in Plymouth until her retirement. Along with being a long-time faithful member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Plymouth, she enjoyed being involved with Harvest House and her weekly Bible Study group where she shared her love of Jesus and her deep-rooted faith. In addition, Maria enjoyed tending her beautiful flowers that outlined her lovely home. She also loved reading novels, watching old westerns and soap operas, shopping, collecting jewelry and pretty trinkets. Eating out with her friends was something she always looked forward to as well. But, most of all, she loved her family and adored all her little ones that will continue her legacy.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four children: San Juanita Hisey, Antonio (Ruth Ann) Soria; Noel (Sonja) Soria; and Thalia Lisa Roberts, all of Plymouth, IN; her three sisters: Maria Elena Cortez; Josefina Biron; and Angelina Rodriguez; one brother, Adolfo Montano; along with 16 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and lots and lots and lots of great-great-grandchildren.
Those gone before her are her parents; her husband, Antonio Soria; son, Rolando Soria; 8 siblings; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Maria Soria will always be remembered for her quick wit, determined independence, her true inner strength, her willingness to help someone in need, and her heart for Jesus, her family, and friends.
