Plymouth - Joan Louise Troup, 93, passed away peacefully at Millers Merry Manor on September 19, 2025.
Joan was born March 12, 1932, on a farm outside of Hillsboro, IN, the daughter of Irving and Nina Ripley. Joan met Allen “Skip” Troup in high school. As high school sweethearts, she enjoyed watching him play basketball while she was in the band. They were happily married on July 7, 1951. They celebrated 40 years of marriage until Allen’s passing in 1991.
Joan received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with minor in Geography from
St. Jospeh College in Rensselaer, IN, and her Masters degree from Indiana University/South Bend. To pay for her education, she taught piano lessons while raising 4 young boys and later, their daughter. These degrees suited her to pursue her love of music as a teacher of 30 years in Plymouth schools as an elementary music teacher, then onto 7th grade Geography. She had a career she thoroughly enjoyed with the students, faculty and staff.
Joan and Skip took the “boys” camping often before moving to Plymouth, IN, in 1971. They loved to travel to area golf resorts while on vacation and playing bridge with friends. Both were active in their Fraternal Organizations, and Joan was a 50-year member of Eastern Star.
Joan loved music and shared her piano playing by accompanying the church choir for many years, daughter’s flute solo and ensemble contest along with other students, many school music programs, and the Christmas program at Miller’s Assisted Living. She always ended the programs with a glissando !!
Joan and Skip raised their five children beginning life together in Goodland, IN, then moving to Plymouth, IN. Joan always expressed gratitude and joy that she had a loving family, a good circle of friends, and always ready for a bridge game or social event.
Joan was proceeded in death by her husband, Allen Troup; son, Timothy Allen Troup; grandson, Skylar Allen Evans; and brother, Donald (Martha) Ripley. Survivors include sons: Michael (Stephanie) Troup; Wayne (Mary Martz) Troup; Bradford (Kelli) Troup; LuAnn (Rich Flahardy) Evans; daughter-in-law Dawn Troup; brother, William (AlthaLee) Ripley; and 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
